News and Reviews

Companies around the globe have taken your traditional home appliances – locks, thermostats, and lights and turned them into smart connected devices. Meaning, you can not only access them remotely on your phone, tablet, or computer, but also that they’re more than just lock or a light, they’ve got integrated functions. So a light can be an alarm, a thermostat can be a smoke detector, or a lock can be an entry device, not just a security device.

First is the Maximus Smart Security Light. Beyond being just an aesthetic, decorative light the Maximus is a smart light – Meaning it can be controlled remotely, set on a timer, and be motion-activated. We’ve seen that before but what makes this guy unique is its built-in security system. The built-in HD camera starts recording when it detects motion. Once it detects someone you receive a notification on your phone or tablet through their app so you’re always able to keep an eye on your home. The Maximus comes in four different designs with more coming soon, including a companion light. You can purchase the Maximus light at for $199. Check out today to learn more.

Smart locks are pretty interesting gadgets because they allow you to ditch the key and secure your home with a touchpad or in some instances your phone. One that’s ranked at the top of the list is the Yale Security YRD240. It’s a slick looking hard acrylic touchscreen keypad lock that runs on 4 double-A batteries. It’s a very good looking and cool addition to a smart home – you can find this guy for around $167 on amazon.

The Nest thermostat – a product that’s owned by google now – has changed how we monitor and control the temperature of our house. Their latest generation is still helping people save money on their energy bills and is most effective at learning your heat and cooling patterns – so if you like it cool at night and turned off during the day, you set it a few times the first week of owning it, and then suddenly it learns how you act and does it automatically. It can also connect to your Nest Protect – a smoke detector – and your dropcam for security purposes. The nest is available on for $249.

So there you have it, three cool gadgets you can easily install in your home to make it a completely connected home for around $600.

Prevent Break-Ins with MAXIMUS® Smart Security Light™

Announcing the first home safety light fixture making it easy to SEE and SPEAK with someone LIVE at your front door from virtually anywhere

July 15, 2015 (HAYWARD, Calif.) – Jiawei Technology (USA) Ltd., a leading LED lighting technology company, today announces the first effective break-in prevention solution built into an attractive outdoor light fixture. Now available at, the Maximus Smart Security Light detects someone approaching your home, sends an alert and makes it possible for you to engage in a live conversation or sound an alarm – all from your smart phone. Whether a delivery has arrived or a stranger is at your door, Maximus helps you interact from your smart phone, making it possible for you to have peace of mind wherever you go.

According to the FBI, burglaries occur on average every 15 seconds (FBI Crime Reports). Burglaries of residential properties accounted for 74.5 percent of all burglary offenses (FBI Crime Reports) and 72 percent of home burglaries occurred when the residents were away (DOJ National Crime Victimization Survey).

“Traditional home security systems are limited to video monitoring capabilities,” said Mark Honeycutt, CEO, Jiawei Technology. “The proliferation of smart mobile devices is making it possible to not only monitor, but also engage with someone live at your front door from virtually anywhere so you can actively prevent break-ins from happening.”

With the MAXIMUS Smart Security Light, your smart outdoor entry light empowers you to:

  • engage in conversation with a person at your door, sound an alarm and record the entire incident (both 2-way audio/1-way video) to the Kuna cloud each month for a nominal fee
  • turn the light on and off remotely, set a schedule, or automatically turn on dusk-to-dawn mode or activate in response to motion
  • keep track of who’s arriving at the door – from unwanted guests to the UPS guy, giving you and your family a sense of safety and comfort wherever you go

In most cities, the front door is required by law to have an entry light. Therefore, it makes sense to build a home safety solution into a light. You can install the Maximus Smart Security Light at every point of entry, preventing break-ins on the side and back doors as well as the front, while all work seamlessly together. The MAXIMUS Smart Security Light is easy to install in approximately 15 minutes when replacing an existing light fixture, eliminating additional electrician’s costs for running additional wires and cable required by most outdoor cameras. By downloading the mobile iOS or Android app, you can confirm when loved ones and caregivers arrive at home.
